Tangier in Half a Day: Guided Walking Tour or On Your Own?
Updated October 20, 2026 · 5 min read
For most first-time visitors, the Tangier half-day guided city tour at €28 is the simple choice. It lasts four hours and has 323 reviews, the most of any city tour in Tangier. Its rating is 4.0 stars, joint lowest on this page, so read the recent reviews first. If you are happy with a map and a free afternoon, you can cover the same ground alone for the price of a coffee and an entrance ticket or two.
What the tours cover
The half-day tour’s summary promises the historic medina and “iconic landmarks”. It does not list the stops, so confirm the route on the booking page. The private walks are more specific. One names the medina, the Kasbah and the story of Mershan; another includes the Jewish synagogues and local markets; a third combines the Kasbah, the medina and the souks, with views of the Mediterranean coast.
The four options
| Tour | Duration | From | Rating | Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Half-day guided city tour | 4 hours | €28 | 4.0 (323) | Guided tour |
| Private 3-hour Kasbah, medina and souks walk | 3 hours | €36.07 | 4.0 (41) | Private walk |
| Private guided walk of the Tangier medina | 3 hours | €44.61 | 4.2 (177) | Private, licensed guide |
| Private city walk with pickup | 3 hours | €52.21 | 4.7 (44) | Private walk with pickup |
The prices are per person. For a couple or a family, the €45 private walk with a licensed guide, rated 4.2 from 177 reviews, adds up quickly, but you set the pace and can ask for the places you care about. The €52 walk has the best rating at 4.7, from only 44 reviews, and includes pickup, which saves you finding the meeting point.

What a guide adds, and what you can do alone
The medina is walled and was once fortified by the Portuguese, and its alleys are narrow and winding. A map helps, but the point of a guide is context: who built what, what each square was for, which door leads where. The main anchors are easy to find alone. The Grand Socco is the main entrance to the medina, the Petit Socco is a small café square a short walk inside, and the Kasbah sits at the top. Café Hafa, a café with sea views, is a classic stop for mint tea.
The Kasbah Museum has been reported at between 20 and 60 dirhams (sources differ; the higher figure includes the Museum of Contemporary Art), open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Tuesdays. Check the hours before you plan a Tuesday visit, because they may have changed. If museums are your priority and you walk alone, start there.

When to go guided, and when alone
Go guided if you have only a morning, if it is your first time in Morocco, or if you want questions answered. Go alone if you are happy to get lost for a while, enjoy slow wandering and are not short on time. A middle path is to join one tour on day one and revisit your favourite corners alone later. Tangier’s tours are short, so you can combine them with a longer outing, such as Cap Spartel and the Hercules Caves, in the same stay.
Our recommendation
Book the €28 half-day tour for the cheapest guided option, and the private walk with pickup if you prefer your own guide and a stated pickup. If you would rather wander, take a map and start at the Grand Socco. See every guided option on the Tangier city tours page.
