From Tangier Airport and Port to Your Hotel: Taxi, Transfer or Rental Car?

For most arrivals, a prebooked private transfer is the least stressful way into the city, and the Tangier Airport Transfer at €31 is the best-rated option, with 4.8 stars from 43 reviews. The airport is close to the centre, so a taxi is the realistic alternative. Where it gets complicated is the ferry port: there are two, and they are far apart.
From Ibn Battouta Airport
The airport is about 11 km from the city centre according to airport guides, and the taxi ride takes roughly 10 minutes. The same guides give a maximum daytime fare to the centre of about 100 dirhams, rising to about 150 dirhams between 22:30 and 05:30. They also say there is no public bus from the airport. Fares change, so agree the price before you get in, or use the meter if there is one.

The €31 transfer promises flight tracking and air-conditioned cars. The cheapest, at €23.50, has a clearly lower rating of 3.3 from 32 reviews; read the recent reviews before you decide that €7.50 matters for a single traveller. The VIP transfer covers both airport and port, but only three people have rated it. The price labels differ: the €31 is for a group of up to three people, while €23.50 and €33.22 are per person. From two travellers on, the comparison flips.

From the ferry ports
Tangier has two ferry ports. Ferries from Tarifa arrive at Tangier Ville, in the city, and take about an hour. Ferries from Algeciras go to Tanger Med, roughly 45 to 50 km from the city; by car or taxi that takes 45 minutes to an hour, and there is a train from Tanger Med to Tanger Ville that takes about an hour. Check which port your ticket uses before you book a transfer. A transfer to the wrong port is a wasted booking. The airport guides above also put the taxi fare from the airport to Tanger Med at about 300 dirhams, which gives a sense of the distance.
Arriving on a cruise
Cruise passengers on a short stop should look at the shore excursions, which include port pickup and return to the ship. We list them on the city tours page. Or collect a rental car
If you plan to leave the city, for example towards Chefchaouen or Asilah, you can compare rental cars for Tangier. Check the excess and the deposit, and ask whether the desk is at the airport. In the old medina a car is a burden, so for a city stay a transfer and your feet are enough.
