Tangier With Kids: What Works, What Doesn't, and What to Check
Updated October 20, 2026 · 5 min read
The easiest family day in Tangier is the three-hour Cap Spartel and Hercules Cave tour with camel ride from €27. It is the most-reviewed Cap Spartel tour, with 4.7 stars from 2,007 reviews, it is short, and it is described as a small-group tour with an optional camel ride. That last word matters for children: they do not have to ride.
What works
| Plan | Duration | From | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cap Spartel, Hercules Caves and camel ride | 3 hours | €27 | 4.7 (2,007) |
| Sunset camel ride, Hercules Caves, tea and sweets | 3 hours | €28.80 | 4.8 (1,207) |
| Half-day guided city tour | 4 hours | €28 | 4.0 (323) |
Three hours is a sensible limit for young children. The caves and the cape are outdoors, with sea air and space to run; the Hercules Caves are about 14 km from the centre. Take hats and water. Our Cap Spartel guide explains what you see.

Camels and age
The summaries do not give a minimum age for the camel ride, or say whether a child may sit alone, ride in front of an adult or use a seat. Do not assume. Ask the provider through the booking page before you arrive, and decide on the spot whether your child feels safe. Family travel writers also note that camels on the beach come without safety harnesses, so a child needs to be able to hold on. The sunset tour runs later in the day, which can be long for tired children; consider a daytime departure.
The medina with children
The old town is a maze of narrow, busy alleys. Family guides suggest it works best as a short walk rather than a full day: the Kasbah and its museum, the Petit Socco and the Mendoubia Gardens near Grand Socco, where cannons and an old fig tree keep children interested. Floors in the markets can be wet and dirty, so wear closed shoes. For a guided option, see our guide on the half-day tour. Whether any tour allows a pushchair is something to ask the provider.
Beaches and food
Tangier has several city beaches, among them Malabata and Playa Blanca, but we have no information on water quality or lifeguards, so check locally. For food, couscous, tajine and kebabs are on most menus. Guides recommend bottled water and food that has been cooked thoroughly. If you are asking about specific diets or allergies, ask at the restaurant. For taxis, one guide advises asking for a car with rear seatbelts.
When it is a bad idea
Skip the long day trips with small children. The Chefchaouen day trips last between 8 and 11.5 hours, most of it in a vehicle, which is a lot for a small child. See the Chefchaouen guide before you decide. The quad tour is not a family activity until you have read its age rule on the booking page.
Our recommendation
Book the three-hour Cap Spartel tour, ask the provider about children before you pay, and add a short medina walk on another morning. More options are on the things to do in Tangier page.
